The Scottish Championships were held in the South-West this year with the individual race at Craigengillan Estate at Loch Doon and the relays at Maxwellton Estate near Moniaive. Sunny and warm for most of the weekend so we saw the area at it’s best.
Half the individual courses started on the east side of the ravine known as Ness Glen and quite a few folk didn’t manage to see the bridge on the map so had to wade across. The other half of the courses started on the west side of the map next to a Dark Sky observatory. We don’t think the Planner anticipated this but a few courses had a potential swim option to the last control although most people took the dry runnable option.
In the individual, John Tullie excelled himself to retain the M55L trophy by 2 minutes. Pauline McAdam also had a good run to finish in 2nd place on W55L. Karen Maxwell was the only other podium place, taking 3rd on W18E.
RR had 3 relays teams and the handicap team of John Tullie, Barry Veitch and Ian Maxwell had a convincing win in the 11+ category, taking 2nd overall on the handicap behind a hot-shot Moravian team. The team prize was a box of Tunnock’s teacakes !
