Resume of September

It’s been a busy few weeks so here’s a resume of what’s been happening. Apologies in advance for everything that I’m going to miss out.

The Park World Tour took place at Scone Palace and Perth City Centre on 10-11 September. Kirstin missed out on elite qualification but made amends by winning the race for the masses. An enjoyable two days – a sprint round Scone Palace, a fun (!) run/walk round the maze, and a televised urban O in the city centre.

Kirstin and Sarah were part of the Scottish Junior squad who were 2nd (again) at the Junior Home Internationals which took place over the weekend of 11-12 September. A SOL at Devilla was also the CompassSport Trophy qualification but we couldn’t muster a team this year. Tough conditions. Good run from Douglas Tullie, and a medal required for Barry Veitch.

Kirstin was also in the GB team for the Junior European Championships which were hosted by Scotland this year – mainly FVO and ESOC. Based in Fife, there was a sprint race round St Andrews, a relay in Faskally, and a classic race at Tentsmuir. Possibly Kirstin’s best run so far, according to Ian, missing a top 10 place in the classic by just a few seconds. On the Saturday ESOC ran an Urban O in St Andrews which was well attended. Douglas Henderson was 1st M55, Karen Maxwell 2nd W16, Robin 2nd M60, Ian 3rd M50, Eileen 5th W45. We seem to do better at this ! Lindsey won W50 at the SOL at Tentsmuir.

At Tentsmuir the 2009 joint winners of the club achievement award, Lindsey Knox and Douglas Henderson, were presented with the trophy by Vice-Chairperson Robin Sloan.

At Friday’s Roxburgh Sports Awards, Kirstin Maxwell was pronounced Junior Sports Personality of the Year. Excellent and well done to Kirstin. Karen picked up the prize as Kirstin was on JEC duty.

Martin Sloan, our webmaster, ties the knot with Kirsty this Saturday (2nd October). Congratulations to them both.

There’s also a side-show going on this weekend near Swansea when John and Lindsey will be running for Scotland in the Vererans Home Internationals.

Our next event is Gala Hill on 9 October. See the box to the right hand side.
