Lanton Event – 18th February

Well done to everyone who braved the heavy terrain of Lanton today.

The full results are HERE

It was good to see a new face from the Borders [Kate Grimsditch representing Jed Joggers] as well as a Catherine Maccoll visiting from Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club. It was also good to see a number of families. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Lanton can be tough underfoot and the rain of the past few days contributed to some serious mud in a n umber of places. I planned the longer courses to try to give you a a number of legs where there was a choice of going straight through the woods or taking a longer route round [muddy] paths, rides and tracks. Few controls were very far from a clear attack point off a path or track but holding a bearing through some bits of broken terrain or dense woodland may have been a problem today.

The Yellow Course was designed to let you see a bit more of wooded areas rather than just forest roads.

Thanks for helping us out by parking sensibly. Lanton is not ideal for parking. I know some of the Reivers who participated in Ian Maxwell’s training session beforehand parked quite a distance away and then had an intensive training session before walking to the start. I suspect one or two of you were glad to get to rest this evening.

Thanks to Robin Sloan for acting as Controller of the event and to Robin, John Tullie, Ian Maxwell, Keith Murray, James Purves and Sam McKinnon for bringing in the Controls. Robin and my wife, Susan, also helped me put out the controls.

Roxburgh Reivers next event is the South of Scotland Orienteering League on the Eildon Hills on Sunday 26th March. Full details elsewhere on this website. Entries through OEntries please.

You are also invited to take part in Roxburgh Reivers Sprint Series on Wednesday evenings from 26th April to 31st May inclusive at Bowmont, The Hirsel, Jedburgh [Urban NOT Lanton], Selkirk Hill, Melrose [Urban] and Hawick. More details will appear on the website soon. Four races to count and courses will be of Orange standard with Yellow also at some venues. Seniors £15 for the whole series, £3 pay as you go, Juniors £7.50 and £1.50.
