The British Middle Distance Championship races were held last Saturday near Newby Bridge in the Lake District on a very technical area above the Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Theres no stopping Kirstin Maxwell at the moment and she put in another great performance to finish 2nd on W18E, well ahead of 3rd place.
Also having a good run was Douglas Tullie on M21E, finishing in 3rd despite a recent injury which meant he hadnt competed for a couple of weeks.
James Tullie, running for Forth Valley Orienteers (but we’ll still give him a mention now and again !), finished 6th on the same course. Other results: Ian 12th, Karen 21st, Eileen 15th, Lindsey 10th (but 2nd at the half-waypoint before it went pear-shaped !) Results are here
The British Sprint Championships on Sunday moved the action south to Chorley in Lancashire. With course winning times of a mere 12 minutes and only the top 18 runners making the A Final there was no room for error. Unfortunately a 45 second mistake on Kirstin Maxwells first control in the heats meant she missed the A Final by seconds. She did however gain some satisfaction by winning the B Final comfortably.
