The tops are available in two styles, the “baggy” style modelled here and a more sporting slimline fit and are made by Norwegain kit manufacturer Trimtex.

Reivers end SOL season on a high

After 6 rounds of the 2005 Scottish Orienteering League two members of Roxburgh Reivers had their age classes sewn up, but for another two it was down to the wire last Sunday when they had to win the final round to be certain of taking the title. The competition took place near Altarstone Forest, near Stobo on an area never used for orienteering before.

Having already won JW2, Karen Maxwell ran JW3 at Stobo, finishing in 3rd place. Ian, having won M45S opted to run M45L and finished 6th.

Both Kirstin Maxwell (JW4) and Lindsey Knox (W45L) went into the final round leading the League but, with several rivals hot on their heels, they knew that they had to produce good runs. Both ladies did just that with Kirstin finishing a close second but gaining enough points to win overall, and Lindsey finishing a clear minute in front of the rest of the field to seal her first Scottish title.

A delighted Club President, Judy McNeilly, said “We’re one of the smallest clubs in Scotland and it’s a tremendous achievement for us to have four Scottish League Champions”.

Wins for Reivers at wet ESOA Championships

Despite miserable conditions at Holyrood Park last Sunday, Roxburgh Reivers came away with three wins in the East of scotland Orienteering Championships. Karen Maxwell won W10, with sister Kirsten winning W14. Lindsey Knox also braved the atrocious conditions to come out victorious in the W45 class. Fellow club member Iain Maxwell came third on M45.

Reivers’ successes at Drummond Hill

The penultimate round of the 2005 Scottish O League series took place at Drummond Hill on 9 October. Reivers recorded some tremendous results, with no less than 4 wins, and three league titles confirmed.

In the juniors, Karen and Kirstin Maxwell came first on JW2 and JW4 respectively confirming their league wins for the 2005 series, with Sarah Tulie coming in fifth on the latter. In the junior boys, Andrew Tullie finished in second place, just under two minutes down on the winner.

There was more good news in the seniors, with wins for Robin Sloan (M55L) and Iain Maxwell (M45S), with Iain also taking the M45S title for the year, and Eileen Maxwell coming second on W40S. Completing the results, John Tullie was fourth on M45L and Carol Boyd third on W35S.

Full SOL results are available from the Interlopers website. The final round takes place at Broughton on 6 November.

Tullies help Scotland win senior home internationals

Two Roxburgh Reivers, James & Douglas Tullie, were part of the Scottish Senior team that was victorious in the Home Internationals held in Northern Ireland. This is only the third time that the Scottish team has prevailed over the Auld Enemy, and the first time outside Scotland! Luck was obviously with James and Douglas, as both were members of the historic Junior team which won the Junior Home International for the first time in 2002.

The individual race was held on Magilligan Strand, a very tough sand dune area which was scene of the British Champs in 2002 and had an unusual four loop format with a runner from each country starting every 2 mins. James was running up on M21 and finished the 16km (!) course in 118 mins in an excellent 6th place. Douglas, who was also running up a class, finished the 11km M20 course in 5th place in a time of 97 mins. This coupled with individual wins from Jon Musgrave (M21), Sarah Dunn (W21) and Duncan Coombs (M20) gave the Scots a 3 point lead after the individuals.

In the Relays, held in a forest nearer Belfast, James and Douglas ran together in the Scottish second team along with Graeme Ackland. The Scottish first team of Duncan Coombs, Jon Musgrave and Murray Strain were convincing winners with James just getting out sprinted on the line by Welsh runner Rhodri Buffet to finish in third. With the first English men’s team finishing fifth and the Scottish ladies teams securing 2nd and 3rd, Scotland recorded a famous victory by a sizeable margin.
