There was good news for 3 Reivers this week with their selection for the Veterans Home Internationals being held in the Peak District in mid-November. John M50, Lindsey W50 and Fiona W35 all received their emails after the final selections took place at Dalnamein and are part of what looks like a team well capable of retaining the trophy.
The Maxwell family travelled north to Lossiemouth for the Scottish Sprint Championships and had a very successful day. Pride of place goes to Kirstin, winning the W21E title from a host of experienced orienteers. Kirstin also beat Ian, which might be a first (?). Also in winning form was Karen who won W14. Ian was 4th on M45 and Eileen was 7th on W45.
It looked like nothing from the A9, just a block of thick forest with some moorland either side. However, it proved to be much better in reality. Some of the open areas were a bit rough and tussocky but much of the white/pale green in the forest was good running.
There were no individual winners on the day but several top-3’s. Kirstin and Lindsey both managed 2nd as did Melanie Sloan on a comeback in W35S. Robin, Eileen, Ian and Jim were all 3rd. Douglas T and James were 4th and 5th on the M21E separated by just 5 seconds. Karen was 8th.
Superb performances by Kirstin and Karen helped Scotland to retain the trophy for the individual day of the JHI Championships at Newborough on Anglesey recently. Continue reading
