Roxburgh Reivers Orienteering Club held their annual championships at Bowhill last Saturday. The cunning handicap system devised by Robert Cranston, Club Secretary, was designed to allow members of all ages and abilities to compete on equal terms but he hadnt envisaged the resulting dead heat between two runners, which is almost unheard of in orienteering.
After runs of about 2 miles, Karen and Kirstin Maxwell from Jedburgh finished their two different courses with a sprint to the line and as the referee was unable to separate them they were jointly presented with a new trophy donated by the previous years winner. Sarah Tullie from Teviothead finished in a clear 3rd place with most of the remaining runners finishing within 4 minutes of her time.
