Eildons event 18/2/23 – results

Full results from today’s event on the Eildons are HERE

Planner’s/Organiser’s report

Well done to everyone who braved the rain, mist and infamous Eildon mud to take part in this event, planned as the second in the Roxburgh Reivers’ Winter series.  It was great to see such a good attendance, with runners from a number of other clubs and some young families too. I hope you all felt welcome and enjoyed your run despite the weather.

I certainly enjoyed planning the event, even with the difficulties of trying to avoid some horrendous areas of wind-blown trees  following last year’s gales – we ended up flagging part of the Yellow and Orange courses to guide runners around some of the obstacles.  Although I had kept the courses relatively short to take account of the time of year and the conditions  underfoot, there was a fair bit of climb on all courses.  The Yellow course stayed on paths and rides through the woods, while runners on Orange and Light Green had the treat of venturing up into the mist on Eildon Wester Hill, which spiced things up a little by introducing that slight element of doubt about direction and distance…

Thanks to Robin for acting as Controller, making numerous map updates to show the worst of the wind-blow, and providing invaluable advice on course lengths and design, as well as setting out and bringing in controls on the day.  Thanks also to Lindsey for entries and download, and to those other hardy souls who ventured back out in the cold and rain to clear up afterwards – Rob Cranston, Bridget Khursheed, Judith and James Purves and John Tullie.

Thanks to Buccleuch Estates and the Maxwell family (local farmers) for permissions.

Lanton 3/12/22 – Results

Results from Lanton are HERE

Thanks to Ian and Eileen for planning/organising a challenging event – only John managed the whole 3 loops. Apologies for the lack of printed results, the laptop seems to have lost the printer software since the last time we used it.

The Christmas lunch at The Caddy Mann was excellent and we had a good blether too.

Bowhill results 1/10/22

Results from the event are HERE

Thank you to all those who came along to Bowhill to support this Roxburgh Reivers event.  I hope you enjoyed your run.  Even when it is dripping wet I think Bowhill is still a delight to run around, particularly at this time of year.  I certainly enjoyed my visits to the forest in  the preparation and in setting out the courses. My apologies for forgetting to attach kites to a couple of controls and  for also not including a scale on the orange  course map.  I hope my mistakes were not too detrimental to the enjoyment of your run.

Great  to see a few new faces taking part and also some newcomers coming back for another go.   There was some hot competition on the Yellow course with Wilson Tullie leading the way and keeping up the family tradition .  The Light Green also provided a close race with less than two minutes covering the first four places.  Well done to Barry Veitch for being the quickest and also to Alexander & Stuart Middleton  who completed the Orange in an impressively quick time.

As ever lots of Roxburgh Reivers  pitched up to help in the organisational chores of  the day .  Eb, Robin and Lindsey helped set up the event while for the tidy up Andrew, Eb, Robin, Kate, Barry, Cathy and  Lindsey all contributed.  Lindsey showed her calm expertise in running the computer aspect of the event and Duncan also helped rescue me in this area too.

Rob Cranston (Organiser/Planner)

p.s. The next event is at Teviothead on Saturday 12 November. It’s also the East of Scotland Championships 2022 but don’t let that put you off as there are courses for all abilities – White to Brown.

Come and Try / Autumn series

Our August Come and Try series kicks off at Melrose on 20 August. There will be 2 courses at each event, one for beginners/families plus one for runners with a bit of experience which will be good training (designated as “Club” course but open to everyone)

Waterproof maps and electronic timing at all events.
