Boxing Day 2011

An excellent turnout of 20 members and friends gathered in Hawick for a Score event disguised as a game of snakes and ladders.   Karen Maxwell and Sandy Burgon both managed to complete their board in only 5 moves and 12 “points” from the 54 available, managing to hit 2 of the 3 ladders and none of the 3 snakes, so finished 1st equal.

Spring 2012 – Event 5 Bowhill

Our last event in the Spring Series will be at Bowhill on 19 May 2012.

Parking will be at the Estate Staff Car Park, Weatherhouse, signed off the Selkirk-Ettrickbridge Road at Carterhaugh Bridge.   Map HERE

Starts:  2 – 3pm

Courses:  Yellow (easy),  Orange (medium),  Orange+ (for experienced orienteers).

Cost:  Juniors £1, Adults £3,  Families (with at least 1 junior) maximum £5.

Electronic Punching will be used.

 

 

Spring 2012 – Event 4 Elibank

Elibank, near Walkerburn, is the venue for our event on 21 April 2012.

Approach on South Tweed Road, to Scrogbank, about 3 Km east of Walkerburn. Signed at NT 388373. Turn onto forest road, bearing right up hill and park after 300m on flat ground. Keep roads clear for other vehicles.   Click HERE for map link

Starts from 2.00pm to 3.00pm, courses Yellow, Orange and Orange ++.

Entry fees are:       juniuors £1, adults £3 &  families £5

Elibank is at its best at this time of year, safe for newcomers with the quiet South Tweed road bounding the area downhill to the north, but with lots of contour interest for experienced orienteers. It is steep in places!

Where Eildon Hills, Newtown St. Boswells on A68, 40 minutes from the Edinburgh bypass.  Signposted from Eildon Village at  NT572326.
Parking On a hard track which runs along the south side of the area, the one we usually use.
Courses White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green, Green, Blue, Brown.Update 9/3/12:  There will be a STRING course

Note:  we’re not taking pre-entries so maps will be available on a first-come basis and will be recycled if necessary.

Registration Registration 10:30 – 12.30.    Starts from 11am – 1pm
Timing SportIdent timing will be used.  Free to hire for the day but £30 will be charged if you lose it.
Terrain Mixture of woodland and open hillside with many areas of fast running.   A programme of gorse clearing has opened up new sections of the hill, and recent fires have improved the runnability of the heather. In the event of bad weather waterproofs may be compulsory.
Facilities Basic/limited toilets near Parking.  Clean/warm public toilets in Earlston, next to bus stop on south side of the main street.  Also toilets at Milestone Garden Centre at the south end of Newtown St Boswells.  They have a nice coffee shop for after your run.
Dogs Allowed, but must be on leads – sheep in the area.

Winter-Spring 2012 – Event 2 Selkirk Hill

The 2nd event in 2012 will be at Selkirk Hill on 18 February 2012.

Parking/Registration:  At Argus Centre, adjacent to Selkirk High School. Link HERE

Time:  Registration opens at 12:45 with Starts from 1 – 2 pm.  Courses close at 3pm.

Entry Fees:  Juniors £1, Adults £3, Families £5 maximum.

Courses and approximate length:

Yellow (easy)  – 2km

Orange (medium) – 2.8 km

Orange ++ (experienced/training) – 3.4km

Electronic timing will be used – bring your SportIdent dibber if you have one.
