The BBC Scotland Adventure Show came and tried night orienteering in Darnick before Christmas and you now have the chance to try the course. See the event page on the right hand side of this page, Pre-entry essential.
The results from today’s Score event at Tweedbank are HERE
This was the final event in our Autumn series, with the club Christmas meal to follow.
We opted for a score course with a “mass start” (spaced at Covid-compliant intervals !) to ensure a prompt finish. To spice things up a little, runners could choose one of two options using the same map – a standard 45 minute score (as many controls as possible in any order) and a Challenge score with bonus points for each control if done in one set of even numbers then one set of odd, or vice-versa. Five people opted for the challenge, with the remainder going for the standard course.
Colin Williams managed to clear all the controls on the Challenge course well within the allotted time to take first place overall, while Ellie Darlow made short work of the standard course in a little over 30 minutes. It was good to see lots of different route choices, with runners all heading off in different directions at the start.
Thanks to everyone who made it along (and commiserations to those who were planning to but couldn’t attend..), and a special thanks to those who helped to make it happen – Robin for Controlling and setting out; Lindsey for looking after entries, download and results (and still getting a run); and Pauline, Rob, Andrew, Judith, Bridget and Ken for collecting in controls.

A lovely autumnal day brought out the crowds today, a mix of orienteers and local residents enjoying the weather. Going straight into the rhody’s caught a few people out but it was nice to visit some new parts of the map elsewhere. Thanks to Andrew for Organising/Planning.

The results from Gordon are HERE
Thanks to everyone who turned out on what was a pretty wet afternoon which was a pity because I put the controls out in the dry and it’s a lovely bit of woodland when the sun is shining. John Tullie blasted round, going generally direct, while others found things tricky. Good to see another Tullie (M5 Wilson) enjoying his Orange course with Dad and Granny.
Special thanks to Pauline, Eb and Cathy who helped collect in controls etc at the end despite being quite wet.
The next club event is at The Hirsel, Coldstream on 13 November.

Thanks to everyone who turned up on a nice sunny afternoon.
Advance warning that our next club event at Gordon may move dates from 2 October to the following Saturday 9 October. Keep checking the website.
The results from this evening’s Score event with a Twist at Darnick are HERE
The twist was that competitors had to visit controls in a sequence of even and odd number controls. 2 people managed to lose 10 points by having consecutive even number controls, interestingly one person did 110 then 120, the other did 120 then 110. Thanks to Robin for planning and organising a different format plus the lovely sunny evening.
Planner says:
Hope everyone enjoyed their run round Darnick on Wednesday, some fast and furious running and hope the less fast enjoyed it too. Amazed that ANYONE got them all in under 30 minutes – but 5 of you did! – some quick thinking involved. Well done Paul for a very clever solution – perfect economy of effort! Thanks for coming – there was a bit of work to update the map as the vegetation has had a prolific growing season, plus adding the hospital car park to the map made a third by-pass crossing possible – but I think it was worthwhile. And the weather was perfect!
