Selkirk Hill – evening sprint
3rd in the evening sprint series, at Selkirk Hill. Part of World Orienteering Week (WOW) – all juniors will receive a completion certificate 🙂
Car parking: Please park in the vicinity of the Argus Centre in Selkirk (grid ref: NT476286). From there it is a 10 minute walk to the Start, Finish and Registration at Buxton (grid ref NT483287) – i.e. the usual small car park east from the Argus Centre. HERE
Course: The course is 2.4 km in length, Orange (medium) difficulty. The aim is to start people at minute intervals from 6:30 to 7:00pm with the course closing at 7:45pm. The winning time should be under 20 minutes.
Terrain: Mostly open, scrubby, heathland with fast running on the paths. Most of the running can be done on paths but off the paths there are many jaggy, scratchy bushes & trees. Full leg cover required, no shorts.
Registration: You only need to visit Registration if you have to pick up a hired dibber, pay some money, or check the battery on your own SIAC dibber. Otherwise you can go directly to the Start.
Start procedures: Clear and Check your dibbers before you enter the start boxes, as usual. There will be a contactless check box for those of you with SIAC dibbers to waft. If your SIAC fails to register you will need to “dib” manually at the controls.
Map scale: 1:4000. No legend on the map.
Control descriptions: On the front of the map only, no loose descriptions.
Control sites: Control units will be grippled to anything suitably immobile at the control site. Consequently control units may be sited low to the ground.
