3 Courses, straight line distances…..
Course does not cross roads (except for the school car park which is adjacent to the start/finish) and is suitable for under 16s.
Course crosses a small number of very quiet roads in the Allanbank estate (access to houses, not through roads)
Light Green 4.3km
Crosses the Gala Road and the Stow road and is not suitable for U16s unless shadowed by an adult.
Map: Scale is 1:4000 for all courses. Contour interval 2.5m. Size A3 for Light Green, A4 for Yellow and Orange. Waterproof paper. Descriptions on the map only, no loose ones. Map by Deeside Leisure and Orienteering Maps 2022.
Start/Finish: Both adjacent to the car park.
The courses are mostly urban / parkland (running on roads and pavements) but there are some off-road sections which may be muddy after rain. The Light Green course has options which may involve getting your feet wet in the burn (although it’s possible to avoid this by using the bridges) so wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet in. All competitors should wear full leg cover as there may be undergrowth which can still be prickly at this time of year.
Fields with horses in are strictly out of bounds and are marked as such on the map.
There is a fund-raising event at the football pavilion and a car boot sale at the school car park between 10 and 12 noon. There may also be football on at the playing fields during the event – if this is the case the pitches will be out of bounds to runners.
Facilities: Toilets in Lauder Public Hall at the Avenue (20p or 30p charge TBC). May also be toilets in the Pavilion in the park but TBC.
