SUMMARY:Gordon - evening sprint
DESCRIPTION:The first of our summer evening sprints is at Gordon Community Woodland. \nParking:  Small car park on the minor road from East Gordon to Mack’s Mill. From the A6105 Earlston to Duns road\, turn north 1.5 miles east of Gordon village. At the bottom of the hill\, bear left at the Gordon Community Wood sign.   Map HERE \n    ///shatters.roughest.thickened \nTimes:  Starts from 6:30 – 7pm.  Courses close at  8.00pm. \nCourse:  One sprint course of Orange (i.e. medium) standard. \nEntry fees:  Senior members £3.50\, Junior members £1.75.  Senior non-members £4.50\, Junior non-members £2.25.  You can enter for one race at a time or all 4 on the same form.  Entry form HERE \nPlease pre-enter by bedtime on Wednesday 30/4/25.  Late entries email Robin Sloan to check for available maps. (see below for email address). \nSportident timing:  Hire a contactless dibber for 50p\, older non-contactless hire is free. \nTerrain notes: Community woodland with a network of paths.  Off-path heathery and rougher ground with trees planted in lines of small ridges.  Some lovely small patches of more runnable woodland. \nMany of the board walks are in poor condition\, especially between the parking and the Start and Finish. SUMMARY:Selkirk Hill - evening sprint
DESCRIPTION:3rd in the evening sprint series\, at Selkirk Hill.   Part of World Orienteering Week (WOW) – all juniors will receive a completion certificate 🙂 \n \nCar parking: Please park in the vicinity of the Argus Centre in Selkirk (grid ref: NT476286). From there it is a 10 minute walk to the Start\, Finish and Registration at Buxton (grid ref NT483287) – i.e. the usual small car park east from the Argus Centre.   HERE \nCourse: The course is 2.4 km in length\, Orange (medium) difficulty. The aim is to start people at minute intervals from 6:30 to 7:00pm with the course closing at 7:45pm. The winning time should be under 20 minutes. \nTerrain: Mostly open\, scrubby\, heathland with fast running on the paths. Most of the running can be done on paths but off the paths there are many jaggy\, scratchy bushes & trees. Full leg cover required\, no shorts. \nRegistration: You only need to visit Registration if you have to pick up a hired dibber\, pay some money\, or check the battery on your own SIAC dibber. Otherwise you can go directly to the Start. \nStart procedures: Clear and Check your dibbers before you enter the start boxes\, as usual. There will be a contactless check box for those of you with SIAC dibbers to waft. If your SIAC fails to register you will need to “dib” manually at the controls. \nMap scale: 1:4000.  No legend on the map. \nControl descriptions: On the front of the map only\, no loose descriptions. \nControl sites: Control units will be grippled to anything suitably immobile at the control site. Consequently control units may be sited low to the ground.  \nEntry fees:  Senior members £3.50\, Junior members £1.75.  Senior non-members £4.50\, Junior non-members £2.25.  Entry form HERE \nPlease pre-enter by bedtime on Wednesday 14/5/25. \nSportident timing:  Hire a contactless dibber for 50p\, older non-contactless hire is free. \nClothing:  Full leg coverage required\, no shorts.

DESCRIPTION:The last in the summer evening sprints\, in Wilton Park. \nParking:  at the Walled Garden or along at the Changing Rooms.  What3words:  ///scanty.stitch.trail      Map HERE \nTimes:  Starts from 6:30 – 7pm.  The Start is down in the park towards the museum and will be taped. \nCourse:  One easy course suitable for all.  All in the park\, no road crossing so suitable for juniors.  Ideal for beginners or anyone who wants to give the sport a try\, basic tuition available at the start. \nEntry fees:  Senior members £3.50\, Junior members £1.75.  Senior non-members £4.50\, Junior non-members £2.25.  Pairs/Family entries just pay for the youngest person in the group. \nPre-entries have now closed.  Email Ian Maxwell (details below) if you missed the deadline but want to reserve a map. \nSportident timing:  Hire a contactless dibber for 50p\, older non-contactless hire is free. \nTerrain notes:  Local park with a small area of woodland.  Beware of loose dogs and kids on scooters. \nClothing:  Shorts permitted.
