DESCRIPTION:We’re back to the fun of the rhododendrons of Dundock Wood for our February event. \nCoffee shop !  The coffee shop at the main Hirsel car park is open unti 4pm on Saturday. It’s walkable from the orienteering car park (1km each way)\, or drive to Coldstream\, turning sharp left fairly soon after entering the town\, take the estate drive past the golf course. \nParking:  At the Dundock Wood Car Park\, just off the A697 at NT819398.  Map HERE \nRegistration/Starts: 1:00 – 2:00pm.   Come early if you think you might take a long time BUT please don’t arrive much before 1pm as there may not be any parking spaces. \nCourses:  Orange (medium) 2km actual approx\, Short Green (hard) 3km actual approx.  There are too many paths to be able to provide an easy Yellow course but the Orange is on the easy side of medium. \nEntry fees:  Senior members £4\, Junior members £2.  Senior non-members £5\,  Junior non-members £2.50.  Contactless dibber hire 50p. \nPre-entries:  Entries have now closed\, email Lindsey (see below) if you haven’t entered but want to check for spare maps. \nTerrain: A maze of paths and small clearings amongst a huge area of rhododendrons. Some paths are muddy in all weathers\, wear suitable footwear.  The courses have been planned so that deep ditches can be crossed at a bridge – this is recommended.  Smaller ditches can be crossed anywhere.  Update 29/1/24:  you are going to get very muddy feet\, bring spare socks and shoes. \nSafety:  The car park will be busy\, please take care especially if you have young children with you.  You may encounter walkers\, dogs\, horses – be courteous and pass quietly.  Anyone with a relevent medical condition which we should be aware of may leave a sealed envelope with the details on it with Organiser which they can retrieve unopened after they Finish. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n

There is also a large area of flat flood plain\, with some paths and scattered mature trees.  This is bounded by the unfenced river Tweed\, which should be treated with respect especially by juniors. The B6360 road follows the upper edge of the woodland being used and is OUT of BOUNDS to runners when competing. The area is very popular with walkers and dog walkers\, so please be courteous to other visitors you may encounter.  The Visitor Centre should be open\, but if using the toilets\, please avoid trailing mud on the floors. \nMap: the scale is 1:5000 with 5m contours. As the area is long and thin\, the map is tilted to allow it to fit on A4 paper. So don’t take a bearing using the edge of the paper! \nOrganisers:  Darlow family \nAGM at Darnick Hall: The hall is in the centre of Darnick\, map here. The two War Memorials are set in the gable end of the building\, should make it easy to spot. Please don’t park beside the Hall\, use the wider road on the Melrose side and please avoid blocking any access.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n
