Important note about parking

The Hirsel Estate are still concerned about the effect of the wet weather on the grass where we had planned to park, so the fall back parking will be used. Please follow directions as in the Final Details, but when you come to the Hirsel Homestead (where the tea room and craft shops are) follow signs to continue on for about 1.2km. Competitors will have to walk back along this road, so please drive with the utmost caution as you may meet many pedestrians. One or two courses also use parts of this road, so please make allowances for competitors looking at their maps as they follow the road.

We have the use of a room at the Homestead, very close to Registration and Download, so you may wish to leave spare gear there.

Please remember to bring your entry fee, and that we won’t be able to take cards for payment. Also remember £1 for parking.

We hope you enjoy your day in the Scottish Borders.

This is a new area to orienteering, ideal for a winter event, with first use of a map drawn by British Team member Doug Tullie. The Hirsel is for the most part a classic country park area with a variety of parkland and woodland areas with plenty of tracks and paths. There is however one small part of the park which belies this simplicity – Dundock Wood. It is famed for its fabulous display of rhododendrons and azaleas in bloom in May. In November however, it presents an altogether different challenge for orienteers – several acres of the most complex network of thickets in the country. We’ve made sure that Green, Blue and Brown courses all include a visit to this memorable area.

White, Yellow , Orange, Short Green and Light Green courses will have a 1:10000 map
Green, Blue and Brown courses will feature an A3 1:10000 map with an enlargement at 1:5000 for part of the area.

Please pre-enter if possible on oentries by Sunday 16th November to guarantee a map of your choice, but extra maps will be printed for entries on the day. No payment will be collected by oentries, please pay on arrival at the event.

Registration opens 10.00am, starts from 10.30 till 12.15.
Parking will be right next to the Hirsel Homestead where there are toilets and an excellent tearoom which we hope you will visit.

Entries fees will be White, Yellow, Orange and Juniors £3.50
Seniors £8
(plus £2 for non BOF members)

Start times are not being allocated, punching start in operation, but please try to start within your chosen block.
