Race the Abbeys update

We’ll be pleased to offer any WRE Elite Sprint runner a non-competitive run on one of the urban courses at a fixed cost of £5 per run payable on the day of the event.  You need to enter the urban course you want on a separate entry form, request an Open Start for convenience and key in a discount code which you can obtain by first emailing Lindsey (abbeys2023@roxburghreivers.org.uk).

Melrose sprint 17/5/23

The results from Melrose are HERE

It was nice to see a good turnout to what was a busy evening in Melrose. I was pleased to see the variety of route choices everyone made, which was my plan.

Lauder sprint 25/4/23 – results

The results from Lauder are HERE

Planner’s comments:

Tuesday night’s RR event at Lauder was well named as a Sprint, as with one control to go, four runners were within 40 seconds of each other – then unfortunately Colin Williams missed out the easy 14th control, eyes fixed on the Finish banner. So a win for Ian Maxwell with the Darlow duo of Tim and Ellie very close behind. Good to see Tim running again after his skiing accident and thanks to everyone else for coming to explore the backstreets of Lauder. I added the last few controls on terrain, to give variety and a slight change in the kind of decision making required.

St. Boswells/Club Championships results 20/4/23

Sportident sesults from the St Boswells urban race are HERE.

Thursday evening (20th April) was the rescheduled date for the RR club championships at St Boswells. Thick ice on the pavements in January made it an easy decision to postpone. Instead we were blessed with a sunny evening, although a deceptively cold wind.
Being a relatively small area, the wiser members of the club suggested I design an odds and evens score event. Although everyone seemed to have a good run, the speedier runners were polite enough not to complain that I’d definitely miss-calculated the running time. A quick post race decision was made to stick with the original handicaps which meant the prestigious club championship trophy (rather an amusing hotch potch of mementos stuck to a plinth) went to Robin Sloan. Andrew Armstrong took 2nd place and Lindsey Knox 3rd. Next time I think I’ll avoid the complexity of a score !
Two younger residents of St Boswells sped round their course, having enjoyed their orienteering coaching session the previous week at St Boswells Primary School. Hopefully the McLeod’s from Lauder will be inspired to join the club and the Dalgleish’s will be back for more of the RR sprint series.
